July 31st - Footings are poured

Today the footings were poured. Chip has this cool concrete pump mounted on a smaller trailer chassis. Sure as hell beats using a wheel barrow for putting concrete where you want it. One of his workers just holds the end of the heavy rubber hose and the concrete spurts out wherever you want it.

Within 2 hours the forms have been poured full of concrete. Watching them, Joe and I both learn a few tricks…they have an easy way of sticking the steel rebar verticals into the concrete and keeping them within the center of the wall. Instead of measuring from the edge of the form for each piece of steel, so as to place the steel in the center of the form, they use a nylon dry-line to snap a line into the wet concrete, this provides a line down the center of the wall where the steel rebar rods are easily installed. These guys earn their money.
