Sept 30th - Stackin' Logs

Pat and I have spent the day putting more and more logs up and now we are up high enough that the material handler is crucial in getting the job done. With a heavy nylon strap, the log hangs from the end of the forks and we guide the holes we drill in the logs onto the all thread. It works well and the fit on the dovetails on the corners of the building is nothing short of a miracle. For being in storage for the last 5 years and standing in the Mississippi River Valley for another 150 years, they stack quite nice. Peeling the logs and drilling them is tough work. We are on the 4th course now with the last 2 rows to go up soon. The next course we will have full length logs that will tie the entire cabin together. When the all-thread is cut in sections, we have to rethread the cut-end with a die so that the nuts and couplers thread on easily. It takes, time, patience, some forethought, muscle and a little bit of luck...
